Founded 1926

The Deltas began as the Delta Phi Tri-Hi-Y Club of the Harvey YMCA. Membership of the Harvey YMCA was required in order to become a Delta.

The Tri-Hi-Y pin was a triangle with Tri-Hi-Y in the corners. Within the triangle was a torch enclosed in a circle. The triangle stood for the trinity in a person's personality --BODY, MIND and SPIRIT. The circle stood for the completeness of a Christian life. The torch was a symbol of the mission expressed in the Tri-Hi-Y purpose.

The purpose of the Tri-Hi-Y was that of the YMCA as exemplified by its female high school members. The purpose was three-fold -- to CREATE, MAINTAIN and EXTEND throughout the home, school and community, HIGH STANDARDS OF CHRISTIAN CHARACTER.

Their slogan was PURE THOUGHTS, PURE WORDS, PURE ACTIONS.

Their colors were RED, WHITE and BLUE -- representing SACRIFICE, PURITY and LOYALTY, respectively. Today our colors are Maroon and Gold.

The induction fee was $1.00. There was also a $.25 charge due at every meeting and a $.25 required fee for affiliation with the National Hi-Y fellowship.

All pledges were required to memorize this prayer:

We praise thee, O God for our Tri-Hi-Y girls and counselors, for their desire to be of service in this world we seek to build. may our love for thee awaken in us, an overflow of love for all thy creatures; may our love for spirit of adventure lead us only on the trails once blazed by thee. For this give us thy help.

Amen
