House Rule: Additional Compression


One might want to have equipment that is as functional as standard issue equipement, only smaller. Here's how.

Make sure that the parcel of equipment you wish to miniturize has not already been compressed via this optional rule (many of the items of equipment designed my me already have compression figured in). Then alter the equipment as follows:

Choose a level of compression, n, from 0 to 5 (fractional n are fine...if so desired). Then modify weight as follows:

[New Weight] = [Old Weight] * 1 / (1 + n)

and modify cost as follows:

[New Cost] = [Old Cost] * [Cost Mult] ^ n

where [Cost Mult] = 2

I recommend utilizing this compression for anything and everything, including power cells and armor, though perhaps not firearms...things do get quite expensive after compression level 3 or so, so be warned...

Originally [Cost Mult] was a equal to 4, which seemed to produce better numbers, but it didn't mesh as well with the optional beam weapon compression presented in the GURPS Vehicles, 2nd ed. beam weapon generation rules. So I changed it. If you want compressed weapons (and armor, and everything else) to be significantly more expensive, make [Cost Mult] a larger number.
